Miami is the beat drop of America. The thrill, anticipation, and high all building up to that one beat everyone gets down for. They don’t call it Magic City for any plain ol‘ reason. Miami boasts feisty and friendly locals who redefine self-confidence and elude luxury from their pores to the funkiness that is gritty graffitied neighborhoods, hipster coffee bars, and museums dedicated to Unicorns. Miami is a city that stands out in the boring crowd.
Even though Miami gets called “Party Capital” by most of the world, there’s actually a lot to do in Miami that doesn’t include a nightclub or day party. Miami is full of experiences that are one-of-a-kind and absolute must-dos. Get ready to check off your Miami Bucket List with the best things to do in Miami.

Best Things to do in Miami: Take Selfies with the Wynwood Walls
Jaw-dropping, colorful, dexterous and artistic – Miami’s Wynwood Walls are truly a marvel of the immense creativity that brews on the streets of this amazing city. The idea first hit the streets back in 2009 during Art Basel when the city decided to beautify some of its walls with the aid of snazzy murals.
However, what started off as a means of restoring beauty to the area gradually evolved into Miami’s hottest outdoor art park. Today, these walls boast over two scores of the spunkiest, funkiest and liveliest murals known to the world. Works featured on these walls include many which were done by extremely well-known muralists like Retna, Ryan McGuinness and Shepard Fairey.
It is difficult, if not impossible, to explain with words what Wynwood Walls really is… but, to sum it all up, if you have a knack for street art and selfies then this is your paradise!
A word of advice: Be imaginative with your photo session… strike a pose and snap away!
Best Things to do in Miami: Party by the Pool
Miami is absolutely synonymous with clubbing into the wee hours of the morning, but no one talks about the daytime poolside parties. However, there are plenty of options to choose from and it might get too overwhelming for you to select a day party venue on your own. These poolside parties are arguably some of the best things to do in Miami.
Sundays are for BBQ
The Broken Shaker brings the post-brunch party with its poolside BBQ party. This is a great pool party for those who appreciate incredible food and cocktails. This party caters to the chill crowd who just wants to celebrate the sunshine by the pool with friends.
Sunsets on Saturday
Cool down at this Brickell hotspot on the rooftop pool of Atton Vista. The usual pool party scene can look like something out of #SpringBreak, the Sunset Sessions at Atton Brickell is far more relaxed. Enjoy discounted drinks, incredible views, and live music amongst the clouds.
If you don’t feel like waiting until Midnight to get wild, head over to Hyde Beach right now. Hyde Beach is a Las Vegas Pool Party and Miley Cyrus music video wrapped into one. This is one of the best things to do in Miami, everyone should do it at least once. You’ll love the Champagne showers, oversized pool floaties, and bikini models. Be prepared to fist pump, a lot.
Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Best Things to do in Miami: Take a Day Trip from Miami
Best Day Trip from Miami for Relaxing: Key Largo
Key Largo is a perfect day trip from Miami. As the scuba diving capital of the United States, Key Largo is ideal for anyone desperate for some salt therapy. A day in Key Largo can include taking a fishing trip, 4-hour snorkel tour to the underwater museum, or drive the Historic Overseas Heritage Trail. Pack your sunscreen, enjoy the views, and prepare for motion sickness. Fishing tours, glass bottom boats, and snorkeling can trigger motion sickness in some people. I figured out I was prone to motion sickness in the middle of the ocean on my birthday during a fishing trip. Trust me, you don’t want to spend your day trip feeling dizzy and queasy.
Best Day Trip from Miami for Adventure: Bahamas
What could be more adventurous than leaving the country for a day or weekend on a whim? Believe it or not, the Freeport, Bahamas is less than 50 miles away from Miami. Day trips to the Bahamas are as low as $79 round trip making it a tempting getaway from Miami. Freeport boasts that “look how blue the water looks” kind of beaches that don’t require photoshop. Channel your inner mermaid and swim with sharks, snorkel, or eat raw conch out of the shell. Getting to the Bahamas from Miami takes less than 2 hours by boat meaning you can have an incredible day trip that doesn’t leave you exhausted.
Best Day Trip from Miami for Food: Homestead
A trip to Homestead means you’ll be doing a lot of eating with no regrets. There are 3 hotspots worth the haul over to Homestead. Plan on wearing extra stretchy pants to Knaus Berry Farm. You’ll eat the best cinnamon rolls in the entire country. The second best cinnamon rolls can be found in Chicago. After you load up on carbs, eat your daily serving of fruits from Robert is Here in a form of Miami’s best milkshake.
The milkshakes won’t bring the boys to the yard, but they will direct you to the vineyard. Schnebly Winery is the United State’s most Southern winery. If you’re a grape-lover, you might be surprised to see what’s fermenting in Homestead. Expect to find exotic tropical wine made of mangos, guava, and avocados.
Best Things to do in Miami: Visit Vizcaya Museum and Gardens
Unreal, monumental and stunning, the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is, by no means, your average tourist destination. It is a highly remarkable renaissance-inspired villa nestled between magical green gardens and the wondrous Biscayne Bay. The location couldn’t get any more picturesque than this and surely would make a smashing entry to your Instagram feed. As a Floridian or tourist alike, I recommend making the time to visit Vizcaya.
You’d think that it is just the attractive architecture that makes Vizcaya what it is, but that’s obviously not true. The Museum is home to some of the rarest and exceptional pieces of works and antiques some of which date to the sixteenth century. It has everything that makes for a classic villa that was designed and built in the renaissance era. It brags breathtaking gardens with pools, mazes, and tranquil fountains. All of which add to the serenity of this enchanting place!
A quiet peaceful walk in the gardens or roaming the rooms is a perfect way to get over the jetlag (or the hangover from the night before).

Best Things to do in Miami: Try Something for the First Time
When is the last time you did something for the first time? Life is about experiences and Miami is full of life. Be bold and exciting by doing something out of the ordinary. Miami offers salsa dancing, nude beaches, and indoor skydiving. Other Miami bucket list things to do include spotting an alligator in Shark Vally, going to a rave, and partying for a straight 24 hours. Try new flavors of Latin Cuisine, dance to a new genre of music, and rock the skimpiest bathing suit in your life. Do anything that’s new.
And there you have it. The best things to do in Miami.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a Floridian who ventures to Miami on 3-day weekends like me or a tourist, there’s always something new to do in Miami. Every trip to Miami results in a new discovery of something to do “next thing”. If it’s your first time to Miami, just have fun and let yourself live. Miami is never in a rush, so try to leave that city-hustle from home behind. While the traffic jams and honking might seem like Miamians have a sense of urgency (they don’t), Floridians are just horrible drivers. All of those Florida drivers jokes are true.
Bad jokes aside, Miami is a city you can easily enjoy without packing your itinerary. Wake up when you feel like it, eat dinner at 11 PM, and make memories at 3 AM, you’ll appreciate Miami much more when you let go of schedules. The best thing to do in Miami is to do what you feel like doing at that moment.
